Structural Transformation – A Luxury Spa-Like Master Bath Remodel in Argyle, TX
December 18, 2025

Project Details
Project Location: Argyle, TX 76226
Project Type: Full Gut & Structural Master Bath Remodel
Timeline: 10 Weeks
Budget Tier: Luxury ($90k+)
The Challenge: Beyond Cosmetic Updates
The homeowners came to us with a common problem in Argyle custom homes: a master bath that felt confined despite the home’s square footage.
The existing layout included dated furrdowns, restrictive arches, and a standard ceiling height that trapped light and made the room feel small.
They didn’t just want new tile; they wanted a complete spatial reimagining to achieve a true “spa-like” atmosphere.
The Solution: The “Total Transformation” Approach
Unlike competitors who might just replace surfaces, The Design House team executed a structural overhaul to change the room’s architecture.
1. Structural Re-Engineering & Demolition To create volume and airiness, we didn’t just paint—we demolished.
- Demo: We removed all of the original cabinetry, plumbing, lighting and original drop in tub.
- Vaulting the Ceilings: We removed the ridge opening height and replaced it with 2-ply LVL beams, raising the ceiling to match the vaulted architecture above the vanity.
- Removing Obstructions: We tore out sheetrock, ridges, and returns to push the ceiling height to 10 feet at the closet opening and shower entry.
- Framing: We framed a new pony wall between the shower and tub to define the wet area without closing it off.
2. Custom Cabinetry We fabricated and installed custom “Slim Shaker” floating vanities in Maple Stain Grade. This floating design enhances the feeling of floor space, crucial for a spa aesthetic.
- Details: Included matching linen doors and upper cabinets for the water closet.
- Hardware: Finished with Matte Black square knobs and Miami Pulls for a modern, high-contrast look.
3. Plumbing Relocation (By Haltex Plumbing) Achieving this layout required significant plumbing movement—a nightmare if subbed out, but seamless for us.
- Freestanding Tub: We relocated drains and water lines to center a new freestanding tub, creating a focal point for the room.
- Shower Systems: We installed new mixing valves, diverters for a handheld unit, and moved wall water lines to the opposite wall to accommodate the new glass entry.
4. Luxury Surfaces & Waterproofing
- Countertops by Stonemeyer Granite: Fabricated and installed Super White 3cm Quartz with a flat edge and 4″ splashes.
- Tile Work: We utilized large format Nantes Caliza (23×23) on the floors and 18×47 on the walls to minimize grout lines and expand the visual space.
- Waterproofing: We utilized the Schluter Kerdi waterproof system (with a life time limited warranty)—the gold standard for preventing leaks and mold—including the drain grate and niche inserts.
The Result
In just 10 weeks, we delivered a complete structural transformation, turning a dark, segmented layout into a light-filled, open-concept sanctuary. While a project of this magnitude—involving vaulted ceilings, moved walls, and relocated plumbing—often drags on for months, our in-house control enabled us to execute quickly.
The homeowners moved from a cramped 1990s bathroom to a luxury spa experience that feels double the size.
Best of all, this new master bath now perfectly matches the beautiful kitchen they entrusted us to remodel a few years ago, finally completing their home’s full transformation.
